SCP_1889334952.jpg Navarre Bible: Psalms & Song of Solomon
$44.95
This fourth volume of the Navarre Bible Old Testament commentaries sheds light on the simple beauty of the Psalms and Song of Solomon (Song of Songs). The Catechism teaches that the Psalms, “whether hymns or prayers of lamentation or thanksgiving, whether individual or communal, whether royal chants, songs of pilgrimage or wisdom-meditations…are a mirror of God’s marvelous deeds in the history of his people, as well as reflections of the human experiences of the Psalmist.”

Even though they often reflect events of the past, the Psalms still possess such direct simplicity and depth that they can be prayed sincerely in all times and conditions. This edition with its illuminating commentary will help make these prayers an important part of your life.

This sturdy hardcover contains the complete Latin and English texts of each book; commentary based on the writings of the great saints and doctors of the Church; and material on each book’s historical and Biblical context. Author: University of Navarre; Publisher: Scepter/Four Courts, 528 pages, Hardback, October 2003.

SCP_1594170142.jpg Navarre Bible: Wisdom Books
$44.95
Author: University of Navarre. This volume, which follows the pattern of the highly successful Navarre Bible New Testament, consists of the Revised Standard Version and the New Vulgate with a Commentary by members of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Navarre, Spain.

One of the most striking aspects of both these books is the use of poetry. Although poetic language is to be found in many Old Testament books, it is the predominant form in these ones. The book of Psalms and the Song of Songs (or Song of Solomon) contain lyric poetry, whereas the other books consist mainly of proverbs or aphorisms in verse form, and wisdom poems in varying lengths. This is primarily why the Psalms and the Song are described as poetical books, and the others as wisdom books.

This volume also contains notes, introductions, and Latin. The editors' notes, which are rarely very technical, are designed to elucidate the spiritual and theological message of the Bible.

Covers the Old Testament Books: JOB ~ PROVERBS ~ ECCLESIASTES ~ WISDOM ~ SIRACH
Hardcover, 560 pages, Scepter Publishers 2005.

SCP_10501.jpg Navarre Bible: Major Prophets
$44.95
This volume of the Navarre Bible commentaries sheds light on the four "major" prophets of the Old Testament: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. In the language of the Bible, the words "prophet", "prophecy" etc. have quite a broad meaning, but all refer primarily to the idea of "speaking in the name of God". While each of these books of the Old Testament is unique in its message, there are three points that they all stress - belief in God, the future Messianic age, and ethical and social teaching. Like all the books in the Navarre series, this edition will help to deepen your understanding of these sacred texts.
