This compendium, published on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Sheen?s death, is more than anything, a celebration of life: our life in Christ and our destiny in faith. The words of Fulton J. Sheen ring as clear and true for the next century as they did for the twentieth.
A fierce defender of the Christian faith, a gifted communicator who touched the minds and souls of millions, a man of deep prayer, and, above all, a wise and knowledgeable teacher, Sheen wrote and spoke prolifically of the oneness of all in the Body of Christ. He addressed our interconnectedness both with others and with God; the challenges that accompany us in our walk in faith; the hurts and questions that plague our spiritual life; the continuum from birth to death to new life; our realization that we do not suffer alone; our love, forgiveness, and patience; our steadfastness, devotion, and sacrifice; and the sharing of our faith to spread our gifts among the global human family.
These are the themes of this book, drawn largely from Sheen?s radio talks, retreat conferences, and other sources. And, in his inimitable style, he elucidates their common denominator in both our individual life as well as our communal life. The center, or core, is the saving Christ. If there is one overarching theme to Sheen's preaching and teaching, it is that Christ is our foundation, our center, our one and only link to a life of fullness - indeed, a life without end. In The Fullness of Time renews our understanding and appreciation of the Christian life and the promise of faith. 160 pages; Paperback. Ligouri Publications.
This classic work by the great French poet and writer, Paul Claudel, is a soaring meditation on the profound Christian truths of the Apostle's Creed. Claudel, a deeply spiritual Catholic poet who meditated at length on what the Church taught him, is filled with ecstasy and wonder as he celebrates his faith, his hope and his love.
The reader will be captivated by the profundity of thought, the enthusiastic faith, the deep sense of joy, the fresh and vivid images, occasionally tinged with a delightful humor that is unforgettable. Claudel marvels at the goodness and love of God, at his work of creation and redemption, and at Christ and the Blessed Virgin. Along with Claudel's meditations and mystical insights, each chapter includes a brief statement of doctrine based on the Summa of St. Thomas and the Catechism, along with a few explanatory words showing the relation of this theology to Claudel's poetry. 317 pages, Ignatius Press Fall 2002 Quantity

Island of the World is the story of a child born in 1933 into the turbulent world of the Balkans and tracing his life into the third millennium. The central character is Josip Lasta, the son of an impoverished school teacher in a remote village high in the mountains of the Bosnian interior. As the novel begins, World War II is underway and the entire region of Yugoslavia is torn by conflicting factions: German and Italian occupying armies, and the rebel forces that resist them—the fascist Ustashe, Serb nationalist Chetniks, and Communist Partisans. As events gather momentum, hell breaks loose, and the young and the innocent are caught in the path of great evils. Their only remaining strength is their religious faith and their families.
For more than a century, the confused and highly inflammatory history of former Yugoslavia has been the subject of numerous books, many of them rife with revisionist history and propaganda. The peoples of the Balkans live on the border of three worlds: the Islamic, the orthodox Slavic East, and Catholic Europe, and as such they stand in the path of major world conflicts that are not only geo-political but fundamentally spiritual. This novel cuts to the core question: how does a person retain his identity, indeed his humanity, in absolutely dehumanizing situations?
In the life of the central character, the author demonstrates that this will demand suffering and sacrifice, heroism and even holiness. When he is twelve years old, his entire world is destroyed, and so begins a lifelong Odyssey to find again the faith which the blows of evil have shattered. The plot takes the reader through Josip's youth, his young manhood, life under the Communist regime, hope and loss and unexpected blessings, the growth of his creative powers as a poet, and the ultimate test of his life. Ultimately this novel is about the crucifixion of a soul—and resurrection. Ignatius Press Fall 2007 850 pages, Hardcover.
