Mary has much to teach us about her son, and the rosary is the devotion by which hearts can be opened to her teaching. Offering reflections based on Scripture on each of the twenty mysteries—the newest, the Mysteries of Light, are included—of this ancient prayer, Father M. Basil Pennington brings to those who pray the rosary a deeper experience of the mysteries and their many treasures. For those new to the rosary, this book includes the rosary prayers, step-by-step instructions on how to pray the rosary, and insight into the historical time and place of each mystery.
In his introduction called Welcome, Father Pennington includes some of the Pope’s “concise reflections” on the mysteries as well as nuggets of the “rich spiritual theology” of the rosary found in the Holy Father’s pastoral letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae. In 20 Mysteries of the Rosary, Pennington has combined and revised two previously published works, The Fifteen Mysteries: In Image and Word (Our Sunday Visitor, 1993) and Praying by Hand: Rediscovering the Rosary as a Way of Prayer (HarperSanFrancisco, 1991). This revision will help all who pray the rosary to mine the treasures these mysteries contain. 192 pages; Paperback. Ligouri Publications Fall 2003
The Rosary Comic Book tells the story of the lives of Jesus and his mother Mary. You can read it, as you would any regular comic book. Prayer is a many-splendored reality--a response to great happiness and great sadness in times of normalcy and times of great upheaval. What happens when we pray? What is this exercise of communion with our God?
This book addresses these questions and more by illuminating specific biblical passages for each mystery of the Rosary, and helping the reader gain insight into the meaning of those texts and God's plan. It explores the use of the Rosary, the mysteries, and the depth of God's love for us.
As we gain insight into the meaning of biblical texts and try to discover God's plan in a variety of events, we experience such a state of awe that we may be overwhelmed with not being able to clearly see God's plans. As our love for God grows, we feel we are incapable of expressing such great love in simple terms.
Prayer and the mystery of the Rosary provide us a channel to communicate this pure love. This book gives the reader a chance to explore the mysteries of the rosary and examine various dimensions and aspects of prayer.

In October 2002, Pope John Paul II updated the prayers of the rosary for the first time in five centuries when he issued his Apostolic Letter “Rosarium Virginis Mariae.” Designating this the Year of the Rosary (October 2002 – October 2003), Pope John Paul II added a new set of “mysteries” – events in the lives of Jesus – for worshippers to reflect on the mystery of salvation and the role of Mary as intercessor. He has also invited the faithful to pray the rosary for peace. The rosary was standardized in the 16th century and called for contemplating on the fifteen mysteries, clustered in groups of five: the Joyful Mysteries of Christ’s birth, the Sorrowful Mysteries of his crucifixion, and the Glorious Mysteries of his resurrection.
Different mysteries are contemplated on each day, with the Glorious Mysteries repeated on Sundays. Now, on Thursday, the Pope asks Catholics to reflect on five Mysteries of Light: Christ’s baptism, his first miracle at Cana, his proclaiming the coming of the Kingdom of God, his Transfiguration in front of three disciples, and the institution of the Eucharist as a sacrament.
Mysteries of Light offers simple meditations written by Pope John Paul II on each of the 20 mysteries of the rosary, along with stunning 25 color illustrations (icons) woven throughout the text. 52 pages; Paperback Ligouri Publications Fall 2003. Quantity
