Adele Dirsyte's simple words to Our Lady and Our Lord, secretly penned more than a half-century ago in a Siberian prison, continue to reveal ...
The message she fearlessly taught The truth for which she was imprisoned and tortured The belief for which she gave her life.
They are the message, the truth, and the belief of a faithful follower of Christ, of a beloved child of Mary. They are the prayers of all who suffer.
Adele Dirsyte was born in Lithuania in 1919. She was arrested in 1946 for Catholic activities that were considered "contra-revolutionary" and sent to a prison in Siberia. There, with the help of several companions, she secretly wrote and bound copies of a prayer book that became known as "Mary, Save Us." She died in prison in 1955 and is now a candidate for beatification. This is her prayer book.

How do you debunk that myth if you're a devout Catholic but your knowledge of Scripture is spotty? How do you get to the truth if you're a fervent non-Catholic but your understanding of Catholic Church teaching is shaky? (How do you do that if it's downright inaccurate?)
The Biblical Basis for the Catholic Faith is written for both audiences. In a non-confrontational manner, author John Salza quotes only from the Bible to explain the basic doctrine of the Catholic Church. Chapter after chapter focuses on doctrinal "hot spots" including sola Scriptura, Tradition, papal infallibility, the seven sacraments, Mary and the saints, justification, salvation, and purgatory.
Here is a book that not only proves that the Catholic Faith is Biblical, but also that Catholicism is Bible Christianity par excellence. Here is a book that makes a thoughtful and welcome gift for a family member or friend who has questions about the Catholic Church.

"Beyond all particular questions, the real problem lies in the question about truth. Can truth be recognized? Or, is the question about truth simply inappropriate in the realm of religion and belief? But what meaning does belief then have, what positive meaning does religion have, if it cannot be connected with truth?" Josep Cardinal Ratzinger 280 pages Paperback Ignatius Press Spring 2005. One of Adrienne von Speyr's most cherished concerns was to rekindle Christians' desire for contemplation and thus to renew the Church's prayer. Light and Images is one of the most important of her works on the subject. She sets forth the deepest theological foundations of contemplative prayer according to the reciprocal relationship between "light" and "images".
Like the simple images that open up infinite depths to the eye of faith, this little book contains an overwhelming wealth of insight into contemplation. One comes away from it with a vastly transformed understanding of the nature of prayer and an appreciation for its irreplaceable role in Christian life. With its disarmingly simple language, Light and Images is immediately accessible; and yet the new perspectives it offers on prayer surprise and challenge at every turn. The book is therefore both an incomparable introduction for those who wish to learn what it means to pray, and excellent spiritual reading for those seeking to draw more deeply from the Church's great treasury of prayer. 156 pages Paperback Ignatius Press Spring 2005. Some Christians claim to reject Tradition in preference to a supposedly "Bible only" Christianity. Catholics, on the other hand, venerate Tradition, yet often without adequately understanding it. In this masterful book, the great theologian Yves Congar explains why Tradition is an inescapable aspect of a fully biblical Christian faith. He explores the various forms of Tradition and discusses the relationship between Scripture and Tradition, as well as the role of the Magisterium of the Church. The Meaning of Tradition clears up misconceptions held by many Evangelical Christians and even some Catholics on this important subject. Congar's study of Tradition greatly contributed to the teaching of Vatican II and to a deeper appreciation of the Church Fathers. 175 pages Paperback Ignatius Press Spring 2005. Quantity
In recent decades a war has been waged within the Catholic Church between traditionalists and those who want to drain its teachings and institutions of much of their meaning. This is the story of that struggle, told through the life of a leading combatant, Cardinal George Pell, Archbishop of Sydney, Australia, and the leading Churchman "down under", who has spent much of his adult life battling attempts to, in his words, "trivialize Jesus Christ".
George Pell, a brilliant student in Rome and Oxford, was chosen by Pope John Paul II to be Archbishop of Melbourne and then Sydney. Pell's unprecedented double appointment reflects the fact that the Pope sees him as a vital front-line figure in the fight to reform the Church. Author Tess Livingstone visited Rome and Oxford and interviewed over fifty people, including many of Pell's critics, in researching her book. It contains a wealth of information about Pell that will surprise both his enemies and his supporters. 499 pages Paperback Ignatius Press Spring 2005. Quantity
Our Splendid Eucharist is not a theological treatment of the subject, but a series of profound reflections, in simple language, on the rich teaching and beliefs of our Eucharistic heritage. The approach throughout is meditative rather than speculative, and is designed to bring to bear the best of Christian tradition on Eucharist spirituality, and to enable the ordinary layman to deepen in their hearts what they already know and believe. 180 pages Paperback Ignatius Press Spring 2005. Who are the people behind this battle? Kevin Seamus Hasson thinks of them as “the Pilgrims” and the “Park Rangers.” Pilgrims believe that their truths requires them to restrict others' religious freedom. Park Rangers believe that their freedoms require them to make sure others' religious truths remain private. Together, these groups are responsible for the impasse over the role of religion in our public life.
The Right to be Wrong explains why the Pilgrims and Park Rangers are both mistaken. A partisan both of religious expression and personal freedom, Hasson takes the reader on a tour of the American tradition in pointing the way toward a pluralism that grounds religious freedom for all in the truth about each of us. You'll never look at the culture wars quite the same way after reading this book.
"A rational argument on a very important topic, at a crucial time in our nation's history." — Jon Ward, Sunday Times
"A powerful case countering the conventional pitting of truth against tolerance." — First Things
