Over three hundred years ago, many Frenchmen came to the unknown forests along the St. Lawrence River. Most of them came in search of furs and wealth. But there were some--a handful of Jesuit missionaries--who came not to get, but to give. They wished to give the savage Indians the knowledge of God and of His love for them. One of these missionaries was Isaac Jogues, martyr and Saint. This is the story of his dangerous and difficult life among the Indian tribes in their tree-dark country--of his work of conversion, of his efforts to teach the Indians rules of health and to set them free from their superstitious belief in the power of their medicine men. This is the inspiring story of his enslavement by the Mohawks, his daring escape, and finally, his death as a martyr for the Faith. Milton Lomask was an instructor of writing at New York University's Writing Center, and taught also at Danbury State Teachers' College. His artices have appeared in such magazines as The Catholic Digest, The Sign, America, and The Rotarian.

A short, popular biography of the Saint who reformed Carmel and gave a host of Saints to the Church. Strong-willed as a child, she channeled that determination into becoming holy and became as a result one of the most famous Saints of the Church.
by Louis de Wohl. This volume in the Vision Books series of saints for youth combines a world famous Catholic novelist, Louis de Wohl, with one of the most thrilling and dramatic saint's lives in history, St. Joan of Arc. De Wohl uses his famed narrative skill to tell young people about the brave teenage French girl who had visions and led armies in battle, but also about how her entire life testifies to the amazing power of God's grace. It's all here: how Joan, a humble maiden in an insignificant town, was told by St. Michael the Archangel, St. Catherine, and St. Margaret to lead the French in battle against the English; how she finally succeeded in convincing the French of the truth of her mission; how she met with fantastic success but was betrayed, captured, and imprisoned; and finally, how she suffered through a politically motivated trial for heresy and was burned at the stake.
Best of all, de Wohl is not interested solely in the external details of Joan's life, but in Joan's all-encompassing love for God, which informed all her courageous actions from beginning to end. You'll not only thrill to Joan's heroism; your heart will delight in her example of loving surrender to God's will. Every detail of her life will ring out to you as a joyful witness to the grace of God. Illustrated. Quantity

Hundreds of thousands of people, including the author, have sold their homes under the patronage of St. Joseph, whose intercession they sought after burying his statue in their yard. The author takes a personal, humorous, light, and loving look at Joseph, depicting his life as a husband and father, home-builder, and carpenter. He shows that the popular statue-burying practice is not a superstition, but part of a prayerful devotion. He also provides prayer services for selling a house and blessing a new home. Fortitude enables us to conquer our fears, even the fear of death, in the name of our beliefs.
Francis' love of God and his faith in the spiritual life gave him the strength, or fortitude, to follow God even when his parents abandoned him. Francis remains a spiritual and human example of the importance in standing firm in your beliefs--even in situations that may seem unpleasant or possibly deadly. The prayers and service activities demonstrate to students that they have the strength to stand behind their beliefs and shows how they can integrate the virtue of fortitude into their own lives. In the early 1970s, some handwritten, mimeographed songs by a group of young Jesuits spread from a chapel in St. Louis to churches around the world. “Here I Am, Lord,” “Be Not Afraid,” and many others have become some of the most beloved songs for worship ever written. Now for the first time, The St. Louis Jesuits: Thirty Years tells the fascinating story behind the five men who became the St. Louis Jesuits and the music of hope that is their legacy. Packed with dozens of color and black-and-white photographs, letters, interviews, and other memorabilia on high-quality, glossy paper, this beautifully designed coffee table book is an intimate portrait of the group. It’s also an intriguing overview of the post-conciliar American church. “We’ve all prayed with their music, and so we know the gift it offers,” writes Rev. Virgil Funk in the introduction. “With this book, we catch a glimpse of the composers and their texts, both then and now.”Recently the group—Tim Manion, Dan Schutte and Jesuit Fathers Bob Dufford, John Foley and Roc O’Connor—came together again for the first time in 20 years to produce a reunion collection. The St. Louis Jesuits: Thirty Years documents the magic of their past and present collaboration—and the changing face of the church that has supported them through three decades. An excellent gift for pastoral musicians, the book will be of interest to all who have been touched by their music. The book also features:
