Created especially for young people, With You by My Side is a new series of resources by David Haas incorporating music, prayers, and reflection. While having liturgical use, these recordings and books are also ideal for retreats, times of prayer, and individual reflection for young people. The accompanying prayer book for each volume includes the words to all songs on the recording, Scripture references, a prayer reflecting on the message of the song, and room for journaling. Music collections and Leader’s Book are currently in preparation.

This recording for With You by My Side: Volume One is filled with favorite David Haas songs, plus four new songs composed specially for this project. "We Praise You” is a spirited song of praise for special events and liturgies. “One More Song” is ideal for graduations, goodbyes, and other transitions. “Nothing Can Keep Us from God’s Love” is an inspirational song of God’s unconditional love for us, and “The Peace of God” is a lovely song of comfort for the painful times.

The collection generated considerable buzz long before its release. In summer 2007 WYD organizers got wind of Christopher's new work. Eventually, they selected "Spirit-Power" to be the gathering song in one of the papal liturgies.

Vibrant, prayerful and lush, Set Free is more acoustic than Steve's previous collections, arranged with the simple instrumentation of church ensembles in mind. Seven of the ten songs were composed for use in prayer and liturgy.

That doesn't mean the music holds back. The title track is a jamming pop-rock song celebrating the "God who truly sets us free from the chains that bind us." Both "Sweet Redeemer," co-written with Sarah Hart, and "Keep our Eyes on Jesus," a soulful gospel piece, will get hands clapping.

One highlight is "Daniel's Heart," which shows how the suffering and courage of three Daniels -- the young man from Steve's parish who died in the Columbine shooting, an infant named after him who had open heart surgery, and the biblical Daniel -- united and inspired the communities around them. Steve says this touching song is the best he's ever written.
